+ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Prosthodontic Treatment Explained
How do I know if my problems require a specialist?
For patients who have experienced repeated dental problems, especially those involving cosmetic or functional concerns or who have high expectations for their treatment outcomes, seeing a Prosthodontist is recommended. They are trained to handle complex cases and provide advanced restorative and aesthetic solutions tailored to individual needs.
How many appointments will I need?
This depends on the complexity of your case. In most situations, at least two appointments are completed before starting any treatment. During the first visit, we take time to understand your concerns, discuss your goals, and explore possible treatment options. We may also perform some preliminary assessments or tests to assist in planning. By your second appointment, we will present a detailed treatment plan outlining the recommended procedures, the number of follow-up appointments needed, and a clear breakdown of associated costs.
What is occlusion in prosthodontics?
Occlusion in prosthodontics refers to the way the upper and lower teeth come together when the mouth closes. It is a critical factor in the design and function of dental restorations such as crowns, bridges, and dentures. Proper occlusion ensures even distribution of bite forces, stable contact points, and harmonious jaw movements. A well-managed occlusion not only enhances comfort and chewing efficiency but also helps prevent problems like tooth wear, muscle pain, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, ultimately supporting the long-term success of dental treatments.
Will my dental prosthesis (veneers, crowns, bridges) break?
They are designed to withstand normal biting and chewing forces. However, just like with natural teeth, it's important to avoid chewing on hard objects such as ice, fingernails, or bones, as this can lead to chipping or cracking. Treat your dental prosthesis with the same care you would your natural teeth to maintain their strength and longevity.
